This programme is a preventative approach to provide intensive mental health and social support for parents with children on the edge of care. It is trauma informed and trauma responsive. It includes skills from third generation cognitive behavioural approaches and also eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) to target trauma directly.
Objectives:
- Increase parents' insight of children’s problem behaviour from trauma-informed and strengths-based perspectives
- Increase parents' understanding of the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences
- Increase parents' ability to reflect on their and their children's thoughts and feelings
- Increase parents' understanding of attachment and how this relates to the needs of children
- Increase emotional management skills and apply these to parenting
- Improve conflict resolution skills in relation to parenting
- Increase stress management skills and apply to parenting
- Increase understanding and skills relating to safety, basic care, emotional warmth, stimulation, guidance and boundaries and stability
- Reduce parents’ symptoms of trauma
